Grow Your Personal Platform With Instagram in 2016

.
If you want to develop your personal brand and grow your platform as a presenter, consider adding Instagram to your social media strategy for 2016. If you’re already on Instagram, ramp up your efforts this year to increase the size of your audience quickly.

While LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook are also great platforms for presenters who want to connect to their audience, Instagram is arguably the best way to exponentially expand the reach of your message and personal brand.

Every day on Instagram 80 million images are uploaded, resulting in billions of interactions. In addition, consumers are 58X more likely to engage with branded content on Instagram compared to Facebook and 120X more likely compared to Twitter, according to Business2Community.

Here are a few tips to help you have a successful year on Instagram:

1. Link To A Landing Page

As a thought leader or a thought leader in training, you will likely use Instagram to pitch a service, collect email addresses, or promote a website. If so, carefully craft your bio to drive the social media results you desire.

For example, if you want to promote your podcast series or new book release, include a link in your bio to direct traffic to a landing page. When posting visuals that relate to the product or service you are promoting on the landing page, be sure to use your caption to remind people to click on the link in your bio.

2. Create Visuals Elsewhere

While Instagram filters often lead to lovely results, you will probably need to leverage other visual creation tools, at least occasionally.

Here are a few options to try:

Pixlr: Make every moment beautiful with this family of photo editing apps.

Flipagram: Create video stories set to music and upload to Instagram.

Canva: Create custom graphics with this easy-to-use design tool.

And remember to recycle beautiful presentation slides as images on Instagram. Read more about this strategy in the blog post, How To Use Presentations For Social Media Marketing.

3. Use Hashtags Strategically

Feel free to go crazy with hashtags on Instagram. Interactions are highest on Instagram posts with 11+ hashtags, according to BufferTo keep your photo caption uncluttered and easy-to-read, post your hashtags as a comment (ideally the first comment) on your photo.

When selecting hashtags, consider these strategies:

1. Use popular hashtags that have a high search volume, such as #love or #tbt.
2. Use less popular but highly-relevant hashtags to attract followers who will love your content.
3. Use hashtags commonly thought to attract new followers such as #followme and #follow.

Here are some popular hashtags that could be a good fit for your leadership platform:
