Whether you were a little kid in the 1970’s or not, everyone knows who The Fonz is. The coolest guy in Milwaukee – if not America – The Fonz was the hoodlum with a heart of gold that made the sitcom Happy Days one of the biggest television hits of all time. The Fonz taught every kid in America what it meant to be “COOL”, and – despite his seemingly aloof nature – Arthur Fonzarelli was a great friend to his pals, a defender of the unjustly accused and a respectful, loving, surrogate son to his “adopted” mother, Mrs. Cunningham.
When it was all said and done, The Fonz was always there for his friends. Sure he was never above using his semi-magical powers to fix a jukebox, scare a bully or set up a date with two pairs of twins, but he never thought of his own needs before those of Richie and the gang.
Although you may be the person in the front of the room when it’s time to make that crucial presentation, we rarely create an amazing Powerpoint presentation all by ourselves. Most of the time there are at least one or two people behind the scenes who helped us gather our assets or edit our speech.
A presenter without humility will fail every time, and a presenter who can’t work with his teammates has completely lost his cool. Take these tips from the Fonz and do what’s best for your team!
Don’t Lose Your Cool
Cool isn’t just about your own charisma or your own ego, and thinking so is a great way to go from cool to fool. Your whole team is depending on you, so keep it together and keep it cooooooool.
Be Helpful
Knowing your way around a great presentation is wonderful. Being willing and able to share what you know is even better. The Fonz was a go-to source for advice for everyone from Potsy to Mr. C. Know matter how many cars he had to fix or how many dates he had lined up, The Fonz always helped his friends. Become the person that your colleagues come to every time they have a question about making the best presentation they can. You’ll earn their respect, and you’ll all shine because of it.
Grow Grow Grow
Even though The Fonz started off as the eternal adolescent, this Peter Pan went back to high school and eventually became the teacher of his own class. By the last season of the show, The Fonz had a long-time steady girl friend and adopted a son of his own. He may have been reluctant, but when others were depending on him The Fonz was never afraid to face a new challenge and grow. Keep this in mind as you seek to expand your own horizons. You’re expanding them for your whole team!
