Customize PowerPoint with Theme Colors

Hopefully, you’ve spent some time crafting a perfect color palette for all of your branding tools. Whether it be signage, printed collateral, or a PowerPoint deck, having a cohesive look starts with a solid color palette. So, naturally, when creating your slide deck, it’s important to utilize your exact colors throughout. Of course, depending on the use case of the PowerPoint, your color usage will vary. So, ensuring your theme colors are correct helps your brand’s look and feel come through loud and clear.

PowerPoint Theme Colors

In PowerPoint, there are some pre-loaded options. You may strike gold with one of them having the exact look and feel you want! But, it can be hard to see how a theme fits your brand when theme colors aren’t on-brand for you. Do you want a lot of texture, a stripped back/simple approach, certain visual elements like shapes or borders? When selecting a theme, why not edit the colors so that each option seems a bit more tailored to your brand? Yes, that’s possible, and yes, we’re going to show you how to edit theme colors right here!

Editing Theme Colors

By now, hopefully you’re familiar with our Art Director, Kyle, who happens to know all things themes and color. He’s put together a quick tutorial to walk you through this step-by-step.

Step-by-Step

In case you’d rather read the steps than watch, we’ve got you covered! Here’s each step Kyle covered above:

  1. 1. On the Design tab, in the Variants group, select the down arrow that opens the gallery of color variants:
  2. Select Colors, and then click Customize Colors. The Create New Theme Colors dialog box opens.
  3. Locate Theme colors
  4. Select the button next to the name of the theme color element (for example, Accent 1 or Hyperlink) that you want to change, and then choose a color under Theme Colors. Repeat for all of the elements that you want to change.
  5. In the Name box, type an appropriate name for the new combination, and select Save.
  6. After you’ve defined a custom color scheme, it’s available on the Colors drop-down menu
