At Ethos3, we’re pretty passionate about the element of human connection. With that, we have found that presentations are a great starting point for deepening customer relationships. As we all know, you don’t get a second chance at a first impression. That’s why we’re here to give you some tried and true strategies for building a firm foundation for strong relationships on day one.
Customize, Customize, Customize
Every audience member has a secret desire to feel like they are the only one in the room. Whether delivering a pitch to a single executive, a keynote to a room/zoom full of participants, doing your homework is sure to pay off. Find out something about your audience that will personalize the experience. Cut the small talk about the weather and pay a compliment or tap into your sense of curiosity before you begin. The more tailored your content, the better chance you have at deepening customer relationships with your audience down the road.
Tease a sneak peek
Ignite the imagination of your audience. Paint the picture for them. A lot of us, as presenters, know how to tell a great story. Why not tell the story of what could be? If your listeners are leaning back, skeptical–it’s time to get them on the edge of their seat. A great tool for gaining the trust you’ll need for deepening customer relationships is right in your back pocket. There’s no better way to get someone on board than to help them visualize why your product or service is going to change their life.
Authenticity is key
Deepening customer relationships is not possible without confidence. Both confidence in you as a presenter, and confidence that what you’re saying is true. A confidence killer is insincerity. Believe in yourself, and believe in your messaging. If you’re fully bought in, your audience will be able to spot that a mile away. Give them a reason to trust you by bringing your most authentic self to each and every encounter, no matter how big or small.
Be predictable
Catching your customers off-guard does not bode well for deepening customer relationships. Set reasonable expectations with your audience so they truly know what they are getting from you. A big ol’ dose of predictability is a recipe for success when it comes to fostering long-term partnerships. Make sure they know what you’re promising them, and make good on those promises.
Surprise and Delight
While a surprise in the form of being caught off guard may be dicey, fun surprises are always welcome! Find a way to reward loyalty, whether that be offering a freebie out of the blue or sending out a congratulation or happy birthday. Exceed expectations wherever possible. If your main goal is deepening customer relationships, the “surprise and delight” tactic is a winner every time.
