Ultra Brite, Shick, Noxema, and Mercury. These were all amazing brands at one time. What do they all have in common? The answer: the same pop culture icon to tell their story.
This is a tribute post to the 1970’s and 1980’s pop culture icon – Farrah Fawcett.
This clip is from the 1970’s Ultra Brite marketing campaign where their slogan was “Ultrabrite gives your mouth…[pling]…sex appeal!”
Here’s another clip from a Lady Schick marketing campaign. It’s actually quite funny. At the end it sounds like “WOW…’@#!*’ gives you the most to work with… and it’s so fast!
Remember “Broadway Joe,” NY Jets superstar and NFL hall of famer? Here is Joe Namath and Farrah together to sell Noxema.
Another 70’s classic!
It’s amazing how one person can sell so many products. What makes it even more amazing is that the only story being sold is sex. If you buy this car you will get this girl. If you use this skin product you will get this girl. If you use this toothpaste you will get this girl. The story being sold is not the product itself, but Farrah Fawcett.
Sex definitely sells, and all these companies only cement that theory. After all, they all thrived during the 70’s and 80’s. Does “sex” have a place in your next presentation?
