California Trip Recap – A Week with Great Storytellers

A lot of people have asked about my trip to San Diego and the Silicon Valley.  Thus, here is a quick recap from my trip in case you missed my tweets.

Saturday and Sunday
The weekend was all about family time.  I was greeted at the airport by my parents and I only had In-N-Out Burger on the mind.  In all seriousness, it was great being able to spend time with my folks, sister, brother-in-law and nieces.  It made me miss home.

Monday-Wednesday
It was such a great honor to be part of the speaker line-up for PPT Live in San Diego.  It was a wonderful experience and privilege to be able to spend time with so many others who have a passion for presentations.

I got to hear presentations from a number of experts in the field.  This includes Julie Terberg, Nancy Duarte, and even Garr Reynolds.  Garr presented via iChat for Wednesday’s keynote session.

I was even invited to give an encore of my presentation:  Storytelling to the Power of X and Y.

Thursday
Thursday started with waking up in San Francisco. Here is the view from my hotel.

My first meeting was a breakfast with Guy Kawasaki followed by a trip to visit some friends at Google.

It was my first time on the Google so I enjoyed taking pictures of the campus.

My Thursday night wrapped up my joining Nancy Duarte and the whole Duarte team in celebrating their 20th anniversary and the release of Nancy’s new book, Slideology, at The Computer History Museum.  This was such a great event, and it was a pleasure meeting so many people who I admire and respect like Bert Decker, Jerry Weissman, and many others.

I even had the opportunity to spend a few minutes with my friend, Geetesh Bajaj, author of the Microsoft Office 2007 Complete Makeover Kit and Rashmi Sinha, CEO of Slideshare.

Friday
Friday was another fantastic day.  I had the opportunity to visit with more friends and even visit the SlideShare offices for the first time.  I love downtown San Francisco so it was my trip felt too short.  Also, I got to meet my new friends at the Singularity Summit.  If you are not familiar with the event, go check it out.  It will be held on October 25, 2008 at the Montgomery Theater in San Jose.  Here is a video in case you are interested:

In summary, my trip to California was great! I couldn’t have asked for a better week. I am hoping to return soon… very soon.
