Create A Presentation People Will Love – Video Tutorials

At the Ethos3 office, we talk a lot about our favorite forms of entertainment. We enjoy chatting about the concerts we attend, our vacation experiences, our reading lists, and of course – our television binge watching habits. Some members of the team are diehard fans of Game of Thrones, while others prefer the humor of Silicon Valley. A few team members have even confessed their love for The Bachelorette and Bachelor series. (I must admit that I am one of the fans of The Bachelorette. Don’t judge! Did you watch this week’s episode? It was a doozie!)

In honor of our love of television entertainment, I want to share with you some Ethos3 presentation tutorial videos. I have a healthy grip on reality (except when watching realty television, of course!) and therefore I realize that these video tutorials cannot compete with the highly-entertaining episodes of Game of Thrones, however compared to other presentation-related resources, these videos could easily be considered the best-of-the-best. I am certainly biased, but go ahead and check them out yourself, and let me know what you think!

These 5 videos were created to inspire you to give the best presentation of your life. We hope they are entertaining and informative resources that are enjoyable as well as educational.

What You Should Know: If you think that practicing a few times for a keynote address, or an important pitch, you’re mistaken. Great performers and public speakers usually spend many hours practicing their material. If you think you have practiced enough, practice some more!

What You Should Know: Most people claim to have a fear of public speaking; however it is likely that most people are experiencing anxiety, not fear. For public speakers who want to calm pre-presentation jitters, understanding the difference between fear and anxiety is an important first step.

What You Should Know: Enthusiasm is absolutely essential for life and for presentations. In How I Raised Myself From Failure to Success in Selling, Frank Bettger talks a lot about enthusiasm and how vital it is if you want people to go along with your message. Just because you’re not in sales doesn’t mean you’re off the hook; the reality is that we’re all selling someone everyday on something.

What You Should Know: It is shocking, but true: the secret to awesome presentations is simplicity. Even big ideas and complicated concepts should be packaged in presentations that are simple for audiences to understand and embrace. As Clement Mok explained: Very often, people confuse simple with simplistic. The nuance is lost on most.
Successful presentations are simple, and utilize simplicity, without being simplistic.

What You Should Know: The Latin phrase Omne Trium Perfectum translates as everything that comes in threes is perfect. This timeless wisdom should inspire the content for your next presentation. Edit your message until you are communicating no more than 3 main points to your audience. Your message will be more memorable, and you audience will be more attentive.

Conclusion: While these videos are chocked full of valuable public speaking insights, the main insight you need to remember is the importance of entertaining your audience. We live in a world that is accustomed to on-demand, high-quality, action-packed entertainment 24/7. If you deliver a presentation that is a throwback to the days of dial-up, your audience will likely take a nap during your presentation so they will be rested enough to binge watch their favorite shows all night. Go big or go home – that should be your presentation mantra.
