How Presenters Can Cultivate Open Intelligence

I always thought I’d die a journalist. It’s what I set out to do in college. And I had no intention of expanding beyond that field. After graduation and a year stint with a small weekly paper in my hometown, I found myself searching for more. That search for new experiences and challenges led me to the content marketing position I am in now. I’ve learned more in months than I ever thought was possible. But, even more remarkable, is the realization that all of the concepts I gathered through journalism translated to the creativity I apply in my marketing career. Research shows that this openness to experience is a prerequisite for Open Intelligence. Here are 3 problem-solving characteristics presenters can employ to cultivate Open Intelligence for the benefit of their presentations:

Cognitive border crossing

Let’s say you are preparing for a presentation about your industry’s trends or new products from your company. Although you are presenting about a specific topic, cognitive border crossing would occur if you read a book about how to present effectively to audiences. You are opening yourself up to new information for the purpose of connecting better with listeners. The result? More people sharing your perspective or more sales made.

Circuitous approaches

In the context of a presentation, a circuitous approach to the storytelling narrative could add depth and encourage audience innovation.

At first, an approach like this could seem rough and unfinished, but presenting your information and main points in a draft manner could inspire the exploration of alternate solutions, ideas, and routes.

Receptive exploration

Before a presenter even begins their presentation, if they are practicing Open Intelligence, he or she will initiate discovery. Instead of becoming overwhelmed by the challenge of presenting a new angle on a familiar topic, the presenter would welcome the opportunity to ask questions and find answers.

These 3 methods combine to form an individual with the Open Intelligence to fuel innovation and creativity. To discover more about inspiration and overcoming presentation hurdles, check out these articles:
