If you are looking for a bold and compelling design, look no further than the graphic design duo Sagmeister & Walsh. The team works out of New York City on various projects. No matter what the media they are designing for, their creations stand out. You can learn a thing or two about being bold and pushing their creativity of your presentation design with the work from Sagmeister & Walsh.
Presentation Design Inspiration: Sagmeister & Walsh
In an interview with HowDesign.com, Stefan Sagmeister explains how he teamed up with Jessica Walsh. Since 1993, Sagmeister has been working as a designer, but decided to team up with Walsh after she began working for him in 2003. Out of fear that Walsh would open her own studio, he offered to team up with her. The rest is history. Sagmeister says he’s proud of his designers that go on to achieve success.
Rather than expand their studio into a huge business, Sagmeister & Walsh kept their group small. This gives them more freedom with it comes to their design work. ““We are all responsible for the projects we work on. This creates ownership and responsibility. We do not pitch for new work, so we do not work for clients we do not have. “Sagmeister says, “Instead, we concentrate our efforts on the clients we do have. This way the work we design actually gets made.”
The designers have an impressive list of clients with work ranging from illustrations, photography, book and magazine covers, billboards, branding and more. Their clients include Snapchat, Atlantic Records, NY Magazine, Pepsi and more.
Be Bold
What stands out to me the most about Sagmeister & Walsh’s designs is their fearlessness to be bold. Each design is exciting and it unlike anything I have seen before. I love their use of color, pattern and imagery. This could help elevate your presentation design. Play with bright colors and see how it affects the tone of your presentation. Patterns are great for background images. Using more than one can creating a compelling visual. Use images that are provoking and interesting.
Make Statements
Another presentation design tip is to make a statement. Sometimes, images speak louder than words. Instead of typing out a long message, use visuals that display your presentation message. The human brain is more likely to remember images than text, so using them effectively in your presentation design will make the message unforgettable.
Your presentation design should be compelling, interesting and excited. Take a look at designers like Sagmeister & Walsh to see how they capture these emotions and incorporate that into your own design. For more tips on presentation design, check out these posts from the Ethos3 blog:
