Several years ago I attended a product presentation in a meeting room at a trade show. The presenter, a sales manager for this product line, read his presentation from 3 by 5 index cards. He seemed to be trying hard to be enthusiastic, but his delivery was stiff and boring. Every few sentences, he would pause, look up at the audience, and a weird grin would come over his face; then he’d go back to reading the cards. After the presentation, I saw his index cards sitting on the lectern. About every third card said in big letters “LOOK UP. SMILE.”
