Top 3 Alternatives to PowerPoint

Presentation software is an important piece of every presenter’s arsenal. Having the right software allows you to create a clean and easy design without taking all of your time and energy away from your busy schedule.

The obvious leader in presentation software is the commonly used PowerPoint, but without a license, PowerPoint can cost a pretty penny at $129.99.

If you are unable to invest in PowerPoint, here are 3 alternatives that the team at Ethos3 would recommend.

Visme
Visme is a great, cloud-based presentation software that is jam packed with easy-to-use design features. With hundreds of templates coupled with plug and play infographic and design features, Visme will give you a powerful design tool at your fingertips.

Pros: Users can create not just presentations but virtually any visual content. With the cloud-based platform, it is easy to collaborate as a team from anywhere in the world.

Cons: With a lot of templates available, there could still be a greater variety; most templates unlock with a paid subscription.

Prezi
Prezi is a cloud-based, nonlinear presentation platform. Jam packed with pans and zoom, Prezi is a great program for the creative presenter. The nonlinear format allows you to create a dynamic presentation without making the impression of changing slides.

Pros: Unique-looking, nonlinear presentations. Creative and engaging design options.

Cons: With nonlinear as the only option, these presentations can get distracting and even cause motion sickness.

Slides
Slides is the most user-friendly alternative to PowerPoint that we have found. This platform is ideal for beginners who are looking for a simple, editable template that’s hard to mess up. This platform makes it easy to collaborate without risking messy presentation duplication or file sharing.

Pros: Great for beginners with tutorials included.

Cons: Limited interactivity with many of the templates, and type fonts are set and unchangeable.

PowerPoint is a great program and is (we think) the best presentation software available. However, it is no longer the only option if you like variety. And with many other free or cheaper pieces of software available, every presenter must weigh their options and select the best program for them and their message. Prezi might work best for one audience, while Slides works better for another. Make sure whichever platform you use will enhance your message and complement your delivery style.
